What are pre-enrol students?
Kindo uses the term pre-enrol students to refer
to those students who are enrolled with the school, but haven't yet reached
their start date in the school SMS.
Examples might be new entrants due to start next term, or
next year's Year 7s or 9s.
Will pre-enrol students show in Kindo?
This depends on how the roll integration between your SMS
and Kindo has been set up.
Your school can choose to either:
- Include
students who are enrolled but haven't started yet on your Kindo (seed)
roll.
- Leave
them off the Kindo (seed) roll until their start date. The next roll
refresh will automatically add them (this is our suggested default).
For many schools, there's also a middle ground. Depending on
your school management system, Kindo may be able to show pre-enrolled students only once they've been placed in a class and year level. This keeps the list
tidier while still letting most families get started early.
This guide covers what this setup choice means for your
families and your office, so you can decide what works best for your school.
When to include pre-enrolled students
Including pre-enrolled students lets you add payables, like
camp costs or school donation requests to a new student before their first day.
Families can see and pay these ahead of time, so there's less to follow up once
term starts.
If you don't need to charge pre-enrolled students in advance, it
is unlikely you need them flowing into the Kindo (seed) roll.
Families can use Kindo either way
When pre-enrolled students aren't included, families can still create a Kindo account and buy items from
your school's Kindo Shop before their child starts at the school.
Things to keep in mind
- Not every student will start. Pre-enrolled students who
don't start may stay in Kindo (depending on your SMS), which could cause confusion.
- New pre-enrolments can take up to a day to appear in
Kindo.
- If pre-enrols are included, and you apply a payable to their room, year level, or the entire school, they will also receive this charge: this may be unintended.
Pre-enrols can be turned on late in the year to allow payables to be applied to incoming students for early year activities (often camps).
For simplicity, we would recommend turning pre-enrols off again once this cohort of students have reached their start date in term 1.
Timing is important - please discuss with us!
